During her time as a grunt she became increasingly more aware of the cruel treatment of Pokémon within the team. She was attacked by a dragon Pokémon her team had been keeping, and while she knew it wasn't the Pokemon's fault for reacting aggressively, this began her fear of dragons. After this event, she promptly abandoned her place in Team Plasma. For the sake of her own safety, and to fulfill a lifelong dream of hers, she began travelling regions.She moved to the Kanto region first, quickly becoming enamored by the Pokémon mansion, wondering if it was similar to the strange house in which she met her partner Pokémon back at home. During her stay on Cinnabar island, someone noticed her ghost partner and recommended she visit the Pokémon tower. This was really when she fell in love with ghost types, spending hours a day surrounding herself with them. Once she felt it was time to move on, she ended up bringing one new ghost with her on her travels.After that she moved to this Sinnoh region, where she stayed in Snowpoint city. She quickly found a new partner at the Acuity Lakefront, and became very good friends with the Snowpoint gym leader as well during her stay. After a while, she decided to travel to the Alola region.She stayed on Ula Ula island during her stay in Alola. This was the longest she stayed in one region, as she decided to take on the island challenge to gain access to the Abandoned Megamart. She completed every trial, but never finished the league, preferring to spend her time befriending every ghost she could find. She became very close with the captain of the trial site, and one Pokémon that she ended up taking with her on her travels.Next was the Kalos region, where she temporarily began to work again. She decided to stay in Laverre city, where she became a model for the gym leader Valerie. The two of them had a brief relationship, ultimately ending it because they realised there weren't many romantic feelings between them. They're both on very good terms, however. She fell in love with several cute ghosts during her stay, but only took one with her as she moved.Currently, she resides in the Galar region, in Motostoke. She wasn't planning on staying for long when she moved initially, however after a meeting with a certain gym leader she decided to extend her stay and take on the gym challenge. She spends a lot of her time surrounded by the ghosts in the wild area, and occasionally takes on modelling jobs with Nessa as well.

She immediately took notice of him, and signed up to learn more about her, although she felt odd taking it on as an adult. She was slightly disappointed upon learning he was a Dragon specialist, but decided to make an attempt to get closer to her anyway.Raihan found her cute at first, despite her attempts to unsettle and disturb him. She didn't learn of Zel's fear of dragons for a while, since Zel didn't want to do anything to upset their relationship. She learned of the fear when she made an attempt to confess to her with an Applin, ending in her running away because of her fear of dragons.A while after that, he decided to introduce her to a Dreepy she had captured, as she wanted help getting over her fear. After she slowly warmed to it, Raihan gifted it to her.Raihan didn't end up successfully confessing until after Zel had been spending some time on the Isle of Armour, where she took her to the desert and confessed to her there.
